The second closest hotel to The Highlands is the Holiday Inn Express, located on the east-bound side of I-70 at Exit 11 (The Highlands is on the west-bound side).You'll probably want to drive over from here but it's only about 1½ miles.
Added Note: You might enjoy stopping off at the Cherokee Trading Post which is at the bottom of the drive leading up to the hotel. They have a nice assortment of boots, moccasins, jewelry, and artwork.
